Network Marketing - What Is It?

More commonly known as multi-level marketing (MLM), tiered marketing, and affiliate marketing, this business has taken the internet by storm.

Because of the pyramid structure of this type of business, many unfortunately believe that all of this type are illegal pyramid schemes. This is not necessarily so, which brings up the question. Network Marketing - what is it?

Network marketing can be compared to a franchise. Working in a similar fashion, parent companies distribute their services and products through independent owners who sell these things to their own customers. The parent company can also provide the owners with training, advertising, marketing and development.

The main attraction to this type of business is that the independent owners also have the opportunity to set up others in their own business.

So not only do the owners have the ability to sell their products and services, they can also expand their business by setting others up. This is called sponsoring. Sponsoring other business owners not only allows the independent business owner to profit from what he sells directly but to also profit from the sales of the owners he sets up.

The sponsored business owners can turn around and repeat the process, creating a pyramid structure.

Many of the networking companies give these entrepreneurs the ability to earn residual income also. Residual income means that you earn money without working. For instance, actors earn residuals every time their movie is played or rented. So if your customers need to re-order things from your company a percentage will be sent to you.

As with many online businesses, there are those that are illegal.

Before getting involved with any business of this type, you should make sure you know the company and its practices. Find out more about the company you wish to join and how long it has been in business.

Check out the cost of start-up fees. Many legitimate companies have a small fee to start out.

When I started, these posts were so inspirational for me. It kept me pushing forward because I wanted to be where they were and I envisioned myself being there, but at the same time I doubted myself.

I am still in disbelief today when we get checks in the mail and that it is possible to work 2 hours/day around two little kids. It requires work and sacrifices at times to be able to manage everything, but it is worth it and has been life changing.

I am grateful for all those working in the backend to make our business work smoothly. For those who are taking care of all the techy side of this digital online business and setup so we can focus on just the marketing part of our digital businesses and learning the skill in advertising that is invaluable in today’s day and age.
